A short journey from "Mandy" to "Hi Ren".

I folks, because it’s Friday and I’m feeling lazy (I was up late, took my lovely wife to see Barry Manilow for her birthday), I’m going to simply share something with you today.

But before I do, I want to remind you all that Tyrone and I will be livestreaming a Haman Nature episode on X and YouTube tomorrow, Saturday May 17, at around 2pm Eastern. We have some fun stuff prepared and we will be taking listener questions. Hope to see you there!

Now, for the sharing: A few days ago, I stumbled across this video on the interwebs somewhere and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. It’s by an artist I don’t know called Ren, and the song is “Hi Ren”.

The video begins with Ren being wheeled before the camera in some disgusting mental ward. This is appropriate as the song is all about mental health. In the past, songs of this “type” leave me cold because they tend to just be self-absorbed narcissism — and this song has loads of that as well — but unlike most others it’s written and performed quite well, and has some thematic elements that I find very very interesting.

Maybe Tyrone and I will talk about it one of these days on Haman Nature.

Anyway, this Substack exists so I can share my thoughts with others who may find them interesting, and lately I’ve been thinking about this little video. So, here ya go!
