Matt Gaetz is on my mind lately.

In silly, positive ways, and horrifyingly disturbing ways.

Recently, Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was on Dave Smith’s Part of the Problem podcast. It was a good interview. I recommend it.

As Republican’s go, I consider Gaetz better than most. Nowhere near as good as Thomas Massie or Rand Paul, in my opinion, but on the right track and possibly even getting better over time.

He seems to be opposing the Deep State regime that has a huge influence on both major political parties in this country. He seems to be part of the populist, “America First” crowd that is behind Trump — not necessarily because “The Donald” is so awesome, but just because he’s not “them”.

Gaetz has also hopped on Twitter(X) Spaces a couple times and supported a number of libertarian policy positions. Of course, they were Libertarian Spaces, and politicians lie, so take it with a grain of salt. But still, it’s something.

Then, during his chat with Dave, Gaetz said something that made me an instant fan. Dave mentioned an old relative that played poker, and Gaetz piped right up and asked if it was Hold’em or Stud? Or possibly Omaha hi/lo split, 8 or better?

What, what what!?!? A politician that is clearly a poker player? Me likey!

(And the game in question that Dave’s elderly east coast relative was playing back in the day? 7-card stud. Obviously. Know your geographical gambling history, people!)

But what disturbed me about Gaetz's appearance is what he said to Dave (and elsewhere) about being informed by “an official in the Department of Homeland Security” telling Gaetz (as a whistleblower) about there supposedly being five different Trump assassination “teams” in the country, two domestic, and three foreign.

As to which foreign governments are involved, we keep hearing mutterings of it being Iran.

I really would love to know what evidence there is for that claim. Of course we mere plebes aren’t ever told such critical things. So what must we do? Just take the word of our wise, benevolent overlords?

Not me. Not anymore. Not ever.

My mind can’t help but go to dark places when I see “news” like this. Trump, for all his many faults, isn’t an agent of the regime. He’s a populist. He wasn’t supposed to win in 2016.

And when he did, all the lizard people that rule over us went into overdrive trying to limit his effectiveness in office and make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

His own CIA and FBI worked against him. Biden’s DOJ was weaponized against him, along with DAs in very “blue” cities. Most of the corporate media attacked him. Operators of search engines and social media platforms moved against him.

The Deep State, the neocons, Big Pharma, Big Ag, the Military Industrial Complex, the Teachers’ Union, and all the other usual swamp creatures all have a massive vested interest in preventing Trump from winning the presidency again.

Billions of dollars are at stake. Perhaps trillions. What won’t these monsters do to keep Trump out of the White House? Would they murder him themselves?

I fear they would.

Which brings me back to Gaetz and the DHS “whistleblower”. Supposedly this person was worried that Secret Service protection was insufficient given these assassination threats and he just wanted Gaetz to “get the word” out.

Then public pressure could be wielded to get Trump’s security detail beefed up.

Yeah, could be.

But it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck rise. If I were an evil Deep State actor who wanted to do a false flag assassination on Trump, this is exactly the kind of “intel” I would want leaked to the public.

I would plant the idea in the populace that there are shadowy foreign assassins out there who want to kill Trump, possibly Iranian — exactly who the neocons want to go to war with next, what are the odds?

I would let that idea stew for a while, occasionally stirring the pot. Then I would do what comes naturally to evil people, and do it in such a way that Iranian operatives could be blamed.

I really hope this is just a fever dream. It probably is. I’m probably seeing enemies behind every tree.

But it’s hard not to. We gots lots of trees. And lots of enemies.
