Mr. Haman goes to Washington
Tomorrow I’m heading to Washington, DC. I’m going to attend the Libertarian Party National Convention. The theme this year is “Become Ungovernable!”
Hell yeah.
I’ve never been to DC. Just never had the occasion too. Also, I find the entire concept of “the nation’s capitol” a little distasteful.
I sorta think all libertarians should. We all favor smaller government (some of us favor none at all) and DC is the seat of the largest government to ever exist on this planet.
DC is Mordor. It’s “The Capitol” in the Hunger Games. It’s where political power is most concentrated. And political power (as is pointed out often on Haman Nature) is poison. It corrupts everything it touches. DC is sickened by it.
Being in DC has ruined Cato and Reason. Those “inside the beltway” think tanks are noticeably less libertarian after so long a proximity to the center of political power.
And it’s no wonder. Power corrupts, as Lord Acton famously said. Power let’s you boss other people around with impunity. Power sets you above your fellow man in a very unnatural way.
And of course, power makes you rich. Look at how DC sucks wealth from the rest of the country. Half of the top 10 richest counties in the country are in the DC area. Think about that. Think about all the “rich” areas we have in this country. All the high end areas, New York, L.A. Silicon Valley.
They are all wealthy, but it’s much easier to siphon off dollars when you’re tapped into the biggest money stealing and printing enterprise ever known to man. The center of that corrupt, diseased enterprise is Washington, DC.
That said, this convention should be fun. We are getting attention from Trump, RFK Jr, Vivek Ramaswamy, and more news crews than have ever attended a LP convention before. It’s not lost on me that the location probably has a little to do with that.
And I hope to do a little sight-seeing. Again, I’ve never been. There are some nice museums. And I’d like to see all those monuments in person that I’ve seen so often on the big and little screens.
Wish me luck confronting Sauron!
Naturally,
Adam
