Occasionally, news stories allow you to see the future. Here's a perfect example:

Sometimes little things happen in the world that have massive impacts, like a tiny pile of snow falling from a tree that starts a massive avalanche. Or the idiomatic “straw that broke the camel’s back”.

A couple months ago, I gave 3 anecdotes that illustrate that we live under a tyrannical government — or nest of governments. One of them was the infamous murder of a beloved Instagram squirrel that happened right before the 2024 presidential election.

Click the link for more details, but the gist is that some miserable person saw Peanut the squirrel on Instagram and ratted to the cops. You see, this squirrel was an indoor pet. That isn’t allowed in the state of New York without a government license.

Naturally, the authorities responded by sending out a SWAT team. They raided the person’s home, a farm for rescue animals, and abducted Peanut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon.

Then the state agents murdered the two pets.

When I heard about it, it sure felt like the last straw. I swear I could hear the avalanche begin.

We had suffered through the Covid lockdown/vax/mask/mandate nonsense. We had suffered through the destruction of free speech on social media. We had suffered through preachy, insufferable, woke, racist, sexist condemnations. We had suffered through state-sponsored trans-insanity. The list goes on and on.

And now agents of the state are breaking into peoples homes and murdering their loveable pets?

I knew at that moment that Trump was going to win that election. Even if elections are rigged, he was still going to win it. The camel’s back broke. The avalanche was unstoppable.

Whether accurate or not, populist Trump was the perceived response to woke, statist, blue-pilled Harris. It literally felt like a vote for Trump was revenge for Peanut and Fred.

I was reminded of that feeling recently when I saw this. It made me tear up when I saw it. My eyes are moist as I type this now. Feel however you want about that, it’s the truth.

It’s blasphemous… and kinda dumb. But I felt the same way when I first saw this one:

The state grinds us up and spits us out, mindlessly, bureaucratically, zombie-like. It does the procedure to the cattle. We are the cattle. Cute squirrel doing nothing but giving joy to thousands of people online and in person? Kill it. Do the thing. Follow the rule.

Heck, send SWAT. The animal shelter Instagram guy might be an al-Qaida terrorist or something. Even worse, he might not vote the right way.

It was such an injustice. I was sure there was going to be a political response to it. Heck, with the Milei-like way Trump and Elon and DOGE are taking a chainsaw to the corrupt and bloated state, it might even end up being biblical.

I sure hope so.
