Donald Trump honored the promise he made at the Libertarian National Convention last May. He said he would free Ross Ulbricht on the first day of his presidency and he did — at least on his first full day as president.
Tomorrow I’ll start critiquing all the non-libertarian things Donald Trump does (and has done) as president, but today he just gets a standing ovation from me. Thank you, Mr. President.
I’ve written about the travesty of justice that was Ross’s conviction and the real reasons I believe he was given two back-to-back life sentences plus 40 years in prison for starting a website, so I won’t revisit all that here. Follow the links for the details.
I’m thrilled for Ross. I’m thrilled for his mother, Lyn, who worked so tirelessly for the past 12 years to shine a light on this injustice and lobby for her son’s release.
I’m also disgusted by all the hate (mostly from the right-wing) I’m seeing on X about Ross’s release. Rather than get furious and take the social media bait, I’m just going to link to two very positive responses on the matter from two of my libertarian heroes, Dave Smith and Spike Cohen.
So, that’s all the original text I have for you today. Follow those links if you want more words from me on the matter.
As for how I feel about all this, the following meme about sums it up:
Naturally,
Adam
Great news. Did they give back his crypto currency(haha)?
I’m so happy for Lyn!!!
