The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire is infamous for its Twitter(X) account. They make some great pro-liberty posts. They also make some shocking “troll” posts. For further details of the latter, I’ll recommend the relevant section on their Wikipedia page.
Some people say that the LPNH is a net negative for liberty (and the Libertarian Party). Others say it’s clearly a net positive. I’m not always sure which stance is more accurate. They occasionally make libertarianism “look bad”, but they also generate a whole lot of attention.
As great persuaders know, the first step to persuasion is to get attention. Most state Libertarian Party affiliate social media accounts languish in obscurity. LPNH gets a lot of attention — but much of it is negative. Does the extra attention lead to more converts to libertarian political philosophy on net?
I honestly don’t know.
Two days ago, in the cyberstorm of activity related to the 2nd assassination attempt on Donald Trump in as many months, the LPNH Twitter(X) account said that “Anyone who murders Kamala Harris is an American hero.”
I have a couple problems with that tweet.
The first is that it’s probably not ideal for the official Twitter(X) account of a political party to call for (even obliquely) the murder of another person — even as rotten a person as Kamala Harris clearly is.
But my second and larger objection to the tweet is that is inaccurate. Murdering Harris wouldn’t be heroic at all. It would be meaningless. Kamala Harris is obviously a puppet of this corrupt regime, not it’s “leader”. She’s a (wannabe) figurehead through which Deep State interests operate, just like brain-dead Joe Biden before her.
If someone were to kill Harris it would accomplish nothing, liberty-wise, except to engender sympathy for her and her family (and by proxy the regime) in the populace. Killing her wouldn’t help us one bit.
But in response to that tweet by LPNH, (and to buttress my earlier point above about persuasion) something truly amazing, pro-liberty, and heroic happened. Yesterday two goons claiming (I’ll assume correctly) to be FBI agents showed up to Jeremy Kauffman’s house in an effort to intimidate him.
Kauffman is probably the most famous member of the LPNH (and New Hampshire’s Free State Project) and could easily have been responsible for the tweet in question. It certainly makes sense for the FBI to roll up, like the hoods that they are, to brace Kauffman regarding the tweet.
After all, that’s how the cops and the feds in the United Kingdom and Australia and Canada operate, right? Just as they would in any totalitarian regime, right?
Except that this is America, and Kauffman wasn’t having any of it. The exchange is captured on video and it is magnificent. It’s only a couple minutes long. Watch it now. I’ll wait. I promise.
The filthy, wretched goons that rolled up on Kauffman knew perfectly well that they were doing wrong. They were “just following orders” given by even more filthy and wretched goons who outrank them.
They wouldn’t identify themselves. They knew they had no business being there. When confronted directly, they slunk away. The whole point was to try to bully an American citizen for what was obviously not a crime.
It’s all disgusting. And it reveals just how important standing up for yourself and your First Amendment rights is.
Kudos, Jeremy Kauffman. That tweet was kinda dumb, but the attention it generated and how it led to this FBI encounter and your ability to broadcast it far and wide was a huge positive payoff. Just massive. It can’t be overstated.
That’s why I don’t despise the way LPNH operates it’s social media account. It’s not my brand. I don’t stand by all the things they say. But is that account a net negative for liberty? Or for the Libertarian Party?
Not today it isn’t. That video is a home run.
It’s also possibly just Round One. No agency likes to be humiliated. I hope nothing awful happens to Jeremy Kauffman in future rounds. Be careful, my friend.
Naturally,
Adam

I agree with you that calling for murder is wrong, even when others around you do so. Doing it to prove hypocrisy is lame as well. But showing others how to handle the feds when they come knocking, there is the true value.
