Earlier today on Twitter(X), I reposted a lengthy post by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) with the following commentary:
”If you believe the fairy tale about the American legislative process you learned in grade school or Jr. High, please read this. We are ruled by criminals. This is not a Republic. This isn't even a Democracy. Wake up.”
I won’t repost Senator Lee’s entire post, but you can (and should) read it here:

The fairy tale is that our “representatives” gather in DC and collaborate to craft bills that address the needs and concerns of their constituents. They then debate these bills at length and with great care and wisdom.
They alter and amend these bills based on input and argument from the wisest and most noble souls among us. Then, after careful consideration and deliberation, these fine folk vote, and only those bills that best meet the needs of the citizens are passed into law.
That’s complete horse excrement. And Senator Lee just shone a spotlight on said excrement.
The bills passed in Congress are written by lobbyists and cronies and oligarchs. and rushed through the joke of a “voting process” without any time for your representatives to read the bills, much less deliberate, debate, and amend them.
We are ruled over by a corrupt oligarchy of venal interests - and those interests are diametrically opposed to your well-being. Your own particular representatives are either in on it, or powerless to stop it.
The only relief the citizenry ever get from this corrupt process is that sometimes the interests of the various criminals in charge of it have competing visions of the best way to fleece and hobble us.
When they find common ground, the criminality is dubbed “bipartisan”.
We really do need to wake up. The Republicans can’t save us. The Democrats can’t save us. The rot infests both “sides” of the political aisle.
Please read Senator Lee’s post on Twitter(X). I don’t endorse every single thing the man does or says, but on this he is exactly right.
Our government does not function as intended or designed. It is long past time for that “alter or abolish” thing Thomas Jefferson talked about.
“Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends [life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness] it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government...” — Thomas Jefferson (The Declaration of Independence)
I wish I could tell you exactly how best to fix our system. I joined both the National Libertarian Party and my state affiliate (the Libertarian Party of Nevada). I also speak and write about it here and on my podcasts.
But that isn’t the only path to fixing this. Find yours. Speak out. Tell your friends and coworkers. Influence the other political parties. Study agorism. Find ways to minimize the state’s influence over you. Start a family. Teach them the truth.
At the very least, be aware that the nonsense you learned in social studies or civics class about how America’s government operates is a complete fiction.
Refuse to believe it. That’s a start.
Naturally,
Adam
