What works best to "fix" politics? Strokes, or primaries?

(It's an age-old question!)

I swear Democrats didn’t used to be so obviously corrupt and anti-human. No, really, they didn’t! Democrats used to have “normal” anti-libertarian views. They believed far too strongly that big government was the best way to organize society and solve all our ills.

They favored a large regulatory state. They favored big bureaucracies “looking out” for the little guy and ensuring a “level playing field”. They favored a large redistributive state funded by hefty taxes on the rich and doled out to the less fortunate by a wide assortment of bureaucratic fiefdoms.

But they weren’t as obviously woke, racist, sexist, corrupt, and insane as they have revealed themselves to be lately.

And please don’t think I love Republicans. I don’t. But they haven’t gone insane. They have their typical right-leaning statist foibles. They tend to be too nationalistic, too xenophobic, too homophobic, too inclined to use the power of the state to force individuals to live the “right” way, rather than allow individuals the freedom to chart their own course.

And of course, there are a large chunk of Republicans that are obviously captured by one of the many elements of the corrupt and fascistic Deep State regime we suffer under.

But Republicans, by and large, haven’t gone insane in the same way Democrats have. There are some who are even quite libertarian in their political philosophy. Thomas Massie in the House and Rand Paul in the Senate stand out. There is even a small Liberty Caucus on Capital Hill, comprised entirely of Republicans.

But what’s up with the Democrats? You used to be able to find quite a few who were consistently anti-war. That used to be a strong left-wing tendency among Democrats. But the last Democrat who was strongly anti-war on principle that I can remember is Ron Paul’s old friend Dennis Kucinich.

Heck, even though Kucinich was terrible on economic issues, he trusted Dr. Paul enough to even be skeptical that the Fed might not have our best interests at heart as it engaged in endless counterfeiting operations to benefit politically connected cronies.

But now, not only are Democrats pro-war, they are also promoting class conflict along racial and sex lines, pretending they don’t know what a woman is, and actively favoring crony political interests over “the little guy”. We even just saw Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders opposing RFK Jr’s confirmation (along with the mega-corrupt Mitch McConnell) because he’s a threat to Big Pharma.

Insane. What can be done? Perhaps the solution is that Democrat politicians all need to have massive cerebral hemorrhages. I’m kidding — mostly.

In 2022, John Fetterman beat minor celebrity and major goofball Dr. Mehmet Oz to become a US Senator from Pennsylvania. It was an interesting race. Both participants faced challenges. Oz’s was that he was a totally unserious and plasticized phony. Fetterman’s was that as a recent stroke victim he could barely hear, talk, or (presumably) think.

The stroke victim won. Weird race. And maybe the stroke helped snap him out of the current leftist insanity in the culture.

He has largely recovered, physically, and has gotten noticed for pushing back against progressivism, rejecting reflexive regulations (in some minor ways), and speaking out against the clearly unnatural and non-organic flood of illegal immigration our country has been dealing with for the last 4 years.

Before the stroke, it would have been easy to categorize Fetterman as a hard-left socialist. Not so now.

Don’t get me wrong. From a libertarian perspective, Fetterman is still awful. But he’s not awful in the reflexive, progressive, racist, zombie-like way that most Democrats are these days.

So, maybe we should hope they all get strokes. Maybe that brain “reset” will allow them to think for themselves.

Or maybe there’s a better way to “fix” these Democrat politicians, especially those who are clearly bought-and-paid for by Deep State interests. Maybe we can primary them right out of office.

Both Elon Musk and Nicole Shanahan have made very credible threats to massively fund primary challengers against Democrats who vote in favor of elites and cronies and against “the rest of us”, as represented by Trump, RFK Jr (and Musk himself) in the current populist moment.

I hope they follow through. My own Senators in Nevada are particularly awful. If Nicole and Elon can help rid us of them, I’d be very grateful. I think the whole nation would, really. And primaries are probably more reliable than strokes — at least a little bit.
