Understanding economics is important. How should we think about various governmental policies? Tariffs? Minimum wages? Price caps? Quotas? How is wealth produced in a society? How can we do better? How can you do better?
That’s why Tyrone and I started our series of economics education episodes, going through Hunter Lewis’s recent work Economics in Three Lessons. The book is an updated and expanded nod to Henry Hazlitt’s classic text Economics in One Lesson.
Similarly, understanding American and World history is also important. It’s why I’m always recommending books like Scott Horton’s great works Provoked, Fools Errand, and Enough Already.
How on earth did the disaster in Ukraine happen? Why is the Middle East such a mess? Israel just attacked Iran. Why? What will happen now? How does this impact you? What politicians and policies cause things like this?
You can take your chances with the talking head propagandists on “news” channels to find out what happened and why. Good luck with that. Alternatively, you can trust your favorite podcaster (blush) or Substack writer (double-blush) to inform you.
But for a really deep understanding of economics and history (and several other topics), there’s nothing better than the kind of deep understanding you get from a good university.
My favorite university is an online “dashboard” one created and constantly updated by the great Tom Woods. It’s called Liberty Classroom and it consists of class after class and lecture after lecture containing truly essential mental tools for your toolkit.
Wanna understand where you are and what’s coming? Fill your brain with knowledge. I love it. You probably will too. Check it out here — and of course, by doing so, you help Haman Nature keep going, at no extra cost to you.
Thanks, and enjoy!
Naturally,
Adam
How did you know you are my favorite podcaster?
