Not only can’t people read books but they can’t read comments either. And by this I mean they can’t comprehend what a comment says bc their reading comprehension is so poor. As a result, people are misunderstanding each other at a record rate.
Go into some areas online with kids and the comments are barely more than guttural utterances.

Writing/reading is an outgrowth of visual art: the ability to put an experience into a fixed form that can be removed somewhat from time and place. It can be transmitted remotely. I can't slow down time, and I can't relive a moment. But I can reread or rewrite a passage, and I can slow the pace of my reading or gazing at a work of visual art and allow myself the benefit of dwelling longer on it.
